The development of the Trust

Sovereign World Trust has grown and transformed since its inception in 1986. So much has changed during this time, not least the development of the church in the third world, communication and delivery, and the digital revolution.

The challenge has been to move with the changes, to ensure that we continue to offer the right teaching to the right people in the right places at the right time.

Here is our journey.

1986

In 1986, Chris Mungeam founded Sovereign World Publishing, meeting a huge demand for Spirit-word Christian literature.

In October of the same year, Chris' wife, Jan, founded Sovereign World Trust to ensure that the poorer nations were not neglected.

1987 to 2007

During this period, both the company and the Trust grew and prospered. The company was able to provide the Trust with thousands of books at cost price.

By 2007, the Trust was shipping books to over 100 nations, placing Biblical teaching in the hands of those who most need it.

2008

Jan Mungeam retired and Chris Moffett became the new Trust Director. The Trust began to diversify, including digital resources in its offering.

2009 to 2023

The charity continues to thrive. Amongst the landmarks are:

  • A new resource website, providing an ever-expanding collection of online resources.
  • Resource centres and satellite libraries in Malawi are established.
  • We develop library collections of pre-loved books for Bible schools and colleges.

2024

Today, we continue to walk alongside our recipients, actively supporting around one thousand pastors and libraries worldwide.

The immediate future will bring regional distribution centres for some parts of Africa.
