Background
In Africa, opportunities for formal Biblical training are relatively limited. In rural areas married pastors need to work to support their families by tending their small plots to grow food, joining with the community on village projects and eking out income from basic work. All this they do in addition to their work as pastors and caring for their congregations. Only a minority of fortunate pastors are able to receive full-time formal training.
The challenge
Canon Darlington from North-Western Tanzania contacted us in 2016 to ask for help with books for his theological studies. He was studying in a college in Uganda away from his family and together they were making a real sacrifice in order for him to progress his studies. In this case time was not the problem but resources were.
The solution
Sovereign World Trust was given details of the courses being studied and we were able to match books to the subjects and topic areas concerned. We then sent him a box of books on pastoral and doctrinal themes as requested.
Impact
With specifically targeted resources, Canon Darlington has been able to take full advantage of this study opportunity which will enable him to be better equipped for his leadership role.
